Follow Me
Why would you follow Jesus? This is a very good question. Are you exhausted from the hard work of religion? Maybe you are worn out from the effects of an addiction or an unhealthy habit? Maybe you have tried everything else, and nothing has helped you get past your own mistakes and failures? Life not going the way you had planned, and you need to know, why things are going your way, or which way to go? Maybe Jesus is saying to you “come and follow me, and I will make you_______________?
What expectations might you have of Him? When Jesus’ called his first followers, they all had some type of expectation. One follower was a tax collector and scorned by the locals, he must have felt like an outcast, maybe even a betrayer of his people and maybe even desired acceptance and forgiveness? Another follower whom Jesus called was a zealot, meaning he was a Jewish nationalist looking for Judaism to rise above all the other governmental powers that were Lording it over them. Maybe he was expecting to follow a power that would overthrow the current regime? Others were fishermen, maybe they were looking for more adventure in their lives, something more transcendent? These are all valid expectations and Jesus called them to come and follow him. Maybe Jesus is calling you to come and follow him and allow him to satisfy those expectations of yours?
What expectations might Jesus have of you? Jesus told his followers once "John 14:12 NLT - "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
There are greater works that Jesus has in store for you. He also said that we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works! There is a plethora of good things God has in store for you and for you to accomplish while you are here on this planet, things that are significant and even worth dying for.
I truly believe all of our hearts cry out for more. There is no better place to find the more than to answer the call to follow Jesus when he bids you to come. And I believe he is calling you right now to come and follow him. Would you come? In fact, I would say come follow me as I follow Christ and let’s lean into His expectation and calling. Come, let’s follow him together.
